5 Resume writing tips

Thanks to Kerri Whittaker, our Waikato Branch Manager, here are her 5 tips for making the most out of your CV application.

 1.   Keep your Resume Updated

Remember to update your resume as you gain new skills and experiences.

2.   Presentation #KISS

As the KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore use a clear layout that is easy to read.

3.   Keep the Advert in Mind

The Job Advert tells you exactly what the employer is looking for.  Use it to your advantage and tailor your resume.

4.   Write a Cover Letter

When you send your resume to an employer, make sure you include a cover letter. Your cover letter should cover why you want the job, what you can offer the employer and highlight your skills, experiences and qualifications to match the job.

5.   Spelling and Grammar

Ensure you use the correct spelling and grammar.  Proof read your cover letter and resume prior to submitting it.  Please also remember to address it to the appropriate person and spell their name correctly!
