Finally getting the job you want

Today's blog comes from Superior's newest team member, Kya Brewer.

Living in a small town, there aren’t many opportunities sitting on your doorstep. After a year of working as a checkout operator, I decided it was time to spread my wings and go and explore. I needed to move somewhere with more opportunities and the chance to further my goals. What better place than Hamilton?

One of the rules of job searching is: Do not move towns without setting yourself up with a job first. That was my mistake. Thinking it would be easy to find myself a job, to my horror it wasn’t. Unemployment can be disheartening, especially when you have been looking for employment a long time. In my 6 months of unemployment I gave myself goals for each week. These being: 15 job specific applications a day, 5 online, 5 cold calling and 5 CV’s handed out at the mall. As long as you are being honest with yourself, and you know you are making an honest effort, then you will be one step closer to finding employment. And most importantly, Do not give up! KEEP POSITIVE and keep applying.

Another good idea would be to join clubs or volunteer groups in the meantime, nothing feels better than helping a cause that you care about. And this way you can meet people that may know of someone that needs an employee. This is called “Networking”.

After 6 long months of actively looking for a job, I found one! ‘Superior Personnel’. As soon as I saw the advertisement, I called. I got the first interview and then a second, I was feeling on top of the world! After hearing that over 200 applicants had applied for the job, I was worried, but then I got a call, I got the job!

Being apart of the Waikato team has been amazing, and I cannot wait to see what the future brings for Superior Personnel.

No matter where you’re from, or how you were brought up, that does not define you. You have the chance and potential to be someone, to play an active role in society, you can do something with your life, as long as you put your mind to it and just do it.
